If you plan on bird watching you may want to consider purchasing a telescope which will allow you to see further ahead because of the high magnification .If you are at a reservoir you may want to see across a lake or further away into the woods. If you are out in the woods or on a nature trail and plan on looking up at the trees for birds, a pair of binoculars will do.

Binoculars are basically two telescopes placed together. The degree of magnification determines how much you can focus.
